When the BCM is not locked, you can swap a New RFA and adapt it to work in the vehicle without needing a New or Virgin BCM using SW27. However, when the BCM is locked, you need to swap to a NEW RFA to erase old keys in both the RFA & BCM - and Lock50 lets you do this without changing the BCM.

How to Detect a Locked BCM

After swapping the RFA and updating Lock50 software, go to PEPS Options and run the "Replace RFA" command

BCM Not Locked

The vehicle will complete the Replace RFA process successfully without any errors

BCM Is Locked

Error messages: "2 Keys Required or Authentication Failed" or "Less than 2 Keys found"

Safe to Revert

If doing a spare key, you can swap back the Original RFA - the client's old key will still work and nothing is broken

When you have a vehicle with both Locked RFA and Locked BCM, you have these options to make keys:

SW28 Function

Use the SW28 Paid function to bypass the locked BCM and still adapt a new RFA only - without needing a new BCM. Found in Special Functions.

Best when you need to erase lost keys

SW36 Duplicator

If the car has UWB, use the SW36 Paid Duplicator option to copy keys without changing RFA - even when BCM and RFA are locked. Faster method for new keys on Lock50 Keys.

Fastest option for UWB vehicles

SW30 Add OEM Keys

Use SW30 to add OEM Keys into the Locked RFA & BCM when you have 2 working keys to add the 3rd key - supply an OEM Key to your clients.

Best when client has 2 working keys

SW28 Advanced Function

SW28 Solution for 21+ Vehicles

You need a new RFA to use this function for 21+ Cars which have been back to Dealerships for Software updates and cannot be programmed with other tools without first putting a new BCM in the Car. Lock50 allows you to avoid messing with BCM or having to remove it - and can program keys to a New RFA using the HW03B adapter with HW04 Lock50 OBD tools.
